Appetizers, then dinner.
First course is the bio from the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) web site of their president, a pastor from Colorado who just resigned, surprise surprise, for having sex with a gay prostitute. Dig the last line about his political power.
"Pastor Ted Haggard is the president of the 30 million-member National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), the largest evangelical group in America. He is also founder and senior pastor of the 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He formed and serves as the president of both the Association of Life-Giving Churches, a network of local churches, and worldprayerteam.org, the only real-time global prayer network.
Pastor Ted has been interviewed by Barbara Walters, Tom Brokaw, Bill O'Reilly, Chris Matthews, and more. Time included Pastor Ted in their list of the 25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America. Harper's says, "No pastor in America holds more sway over the political direction of evangelicalism than does Pastor Ted."
Not just schadenfreude, by the way. This guy is dangerous. He supports preemptive war on the ground that the Bible is "full of blood". See the
Harper's article about him and his church. He's one of the guys who brought us Bush and everthing else rotten that came along with that. Good riddance.
Now on to the main course.
What are you doing election day?
And what are you doing election night?
Me, I'm election day I'm taking the day off of work and poll watching as Jim Webb surges to victory here in Virginia. We have a sitter lined up Election Night, and we're going to a bar/friend's house to watch the results, but we haven't yet firmed up plans.
I'm looking forward to it - I'm feeling really good today. Something different in the air, somehow - indescribable. It's going to happen - and I didn't feel that way in 2000 or 02 or 04. How about you?
